In Loving Memory of Meaty

When Brittany reached out to Bella Bear's Senior Pet Sanctuary last Tuesday, she wasn't asking someone to take away her beloved 17 year old Pomchi because she didn't love him, she was deseperate for him to get the care that he needed and that she could not physically or financially provide. She was asking for help.
The very next morning, I drove to meet Brittany and her sweet little boy, "Meaty".
It quickly became clear that he needed emergency medical attention, so I brought him to urgent care in Palm Desert. Meaty spent nearly 10 hours undergoing diagnostics, blood work, imaging, and testing. The medical bill exceeded $1,700, but there was never a question about whether he deserved care.
While waiting for the laboratory results, Meaty stayed here at Bella Bear's Senior Pet Sanctuary, where he was kept comfortable with antibiotics, pain medication, soft blankets, and lots of love. Two days later, we received the news no family ever wants to hear. Meaty had terminal cancer.
After discussing every option with Brittany and her family, they made the heartbreaking decision to give him the final gift we can sometimes offer the animals we love most—a peaceful, pain-free goodbye.
They took him home for one last weekend together. They cuddled him, loved him, and made their final memories before bringing him back to the sanctuary so he would not suffer any longer.
This morning, almost one week later, Meaty passed peacefully in the loving presence of the people who loved him most.
Bella Bear's Senior Pet Sanctuary covered every expense and facilitated all aspects of this process—from emergency diagnostics to hospice care, euthanasia, and cremation—so Brittany never had to choose between her own survival and giving her best friend the compassionate ending he deserved. It also allowed her time and space to grieve while we shouldered all of the technical and financial aspects of the process.
Sometimes rescue isn't about finding a new home.
Sometimes it's about standing beside a family during one of the hardest moments of their lives.
Sometimes it's about making sure a beloved senior pet does not suffer simply because life became difficult for the people who love them.

In loving memory of Meaty. You were deeply loved, and you will never be forgotten.
